PACE Project Holds Kick-Off Meeting 

Co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Directorate for EU Affairs (DEUA), and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.the Participatory, Inclusive and Green Recovery for Local Public Services in the Earthquake-Affected Region (PACE) Project, dedicated to supporting the recovery measures in provinces affected by the February 6 earthquakes, held its kick-off meeting on February 3, 2025.

 

The meeting was attended by the representatives from the project stakeholders—the European Union Delegation to Türkiye, the Central Finance and Contracts Unit (CFCU), Directorate General of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (UMT)  and the Union of Provinces (UP), and the implementing agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. In the meeting, the general outline of the support to be provided to the earthquake zone was discussed. Participants shared their views on the project and emphasised the importance of cooperation and coordination. The meeting was concluded with a Q&A, where project details were discussed and contributions were received from participants.

 

The PACE Project, with a total budget of approximately €13.6 million and an expected duration of approximately 36 months, aims to strengthen the service delivery capacity of earthquake-affected local authorities and ensure the active participation of civil society and the business community in the recovery process. Within the scope of the project, expert support will be provided for the restructuring of local governments, and grant support will be provided for projects developed by civil society and the business world jointly with local governments.
