Green Climate Green Economy Project’s Local Visits

Three workshops in Istanbul were held under the scope of the Green Climate Green Economy Projects implemented by the Green Thought Association. The local visit schedule which started in Çanakkale in June is continuing in İzmir. The İzmir part of the project which is run with the partnership of Green European Foundation from Belgium and Sabancı University Istanbul Policy Center hosted İzmir Metropolitan, Seferihisar ve Edremit Municipalities, experts and academicians from Ege ve Dokuz Eylül Universities, renewable energy cooperative entrepreneurs, environmental activists, representatives of local stakeholders, and energy experts from private sector.

During the meeting, renewable energy policies in Turkey were discussed. Implementation of these policies in regional scale, centerless energy generation, current situation of the renewable energy initiatives of municipalities and related issues were also discussed. The status of energy cooperatives and clean energy plants in the region and the relevant incentives, legislation and economic evaluations were among the subjects handled. The obstacles to such practices, the solutions proposed for the problems, and possible collaborations between institutions were mentioned.

The next stop of the Green Climate Green Economy Project will be Bursa. A visit to Ankara for various lobbying activities will also be organized. Green Thought Association will host an international conference at the end of the project.
